The GMO-Z.com RUNSYSTEM Open Badminton Championship 2017 took place from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM on May 21 at the Hoang Mai Youth Sports School (Den Lu, Hoang Mai, Hanoi). The tournament gathered 13 outstanding players from different teams and groups within the company. With a strong competitive spirit, the players brought the audience thrilling and eye-catching matches.
Being held in Hanoi for the first time, the tournament featured two categories: singles and doubles. The lineup included experienced members of the Badminton Club such as Tran Tuan Dat (Training Center), Nguyen Manh Cuong (Z.com), as well as newcomers like Le Ngoc Dung (Z.com) and Vu Khanh Linh (Z.com). The event aimed to create a healthy playground for Runners and provide an opportunity for badminton enthusiasts in the company to train and compete. Speaking about the challenges of organizing the tournament in Hanoi, Mr. Vu Tien Cong – representative of the Organizing Committee – shared: “Securing sponsorship was the most uncertain stage, followed closely by encouraging members to participate. Once those two things were settled, the tournament was already 80% successful. Fortunately, the Club received tremendous support from other departments such as Admin and PR, from sponsorship requests to logistics and event coordination, helping us deliver a fairly successful season.”
Despite many difficulties, the Organizing Committee and all the players persevered, making the tournament a success and leaving unforgettable memories for everyone involved.
The tournament featured many exciting and dramatic matches, such as the third-place doubles playoff between the pair Nguyen Manh Cuong – Le Ngoc Dung and Nguyen Manh Tuan (BSD) – Nguyen Tan Minh (BOD). Although Tuấn – Minh had a physical and stamina advantage, they were ultimately defeated by the mixed pair Cuong – Dung. In the singles category, the third-place playoff also delivered interesting moments when the 2016 Badminton Champion, Tran Phuc Hoan (VnLab), faced two female challengers, Le Ngoc Dung and Vu Khanh Linh. Hoan displayed great sportsmanship and fairness, defeating both with a decisive score of 31 – 24.
Sharing her feelings about participating for the first time, Vu Khanh Linh said: “Club members had been practicing for a long time to prepare for this tournament. Everyone was enthusiastic and gave their best in their matches. Teams were paired up, and I received great guidance and support to join the competition. Many thanks to the Organizing Committee and PR department for working together to create such an enjoyable event for the Runners.”
With excellent performance, Nguyen Manh Cuong claimed the singles championship after defeating Nguyen Manh Tuan in the final with a score of 21–17. The doubles title went to Tran Tuan Dat and newcomer Vu Khanh Linh. The season closed with intense matches and surprising outcomes, promising even more exciting activities for the Club members in particular and all GMO-Z.com RUNSYSTEM members in general.
