The signing marked a new milestone for the project, serving as preparation for the pilot launch of this shopping support application in Sakade City, Japan, in November 2023. This is a foundational phase before the app is widely implemented to help improve the quality of life for all Japanese citizens in the future.
Officially launched in August 2023, the project is the result of the efforts of members from the “alliance” of Business Solutions Division (BSD), Smart Solutions Division (SSD), and Technology Innovation Office (TIO). As one of the earliest participants, Mr. Le Vinh Thien – Chief Technology Officer and Project Manager – shared: "Right from the initial phase of project engagement, the client presented the requirements and fully entrusted GMO-Z.com RUNSYSTEM to research and propose suitable solutions. This was a great opportunity for members to unleash their creativity based on IT knowledge and understanding of new technologies to deliver the best product to the client. The project is a collaboration between three divisions, each in charge of a different task: SSD handles business analysis and supports backend development, BSD works on the mobile platform, while TIO is responsible for integrating ChatGPT into the system. The smooth coordination among the members created a synergistic strength that helped the project stay on track and maintain top quality, earning recognition from the client."
The AI-based shopping support application developed by GMO-Z.com RUNSYSTEM is built on the ChatGPT system, acting as a virtual salesperson that interacts with users through voice. Notably, the app can even anticipate user needs. For example, when a user says “It’s so hot today, what should I eat to cool down?”, the app will proactively suggest suitable dishes, along with ingredients, shopping locations, and even cooking instructions. Just by using voice commands, all user needs are instantly fulfilled through this app. Applying artificial intelligence to daily life brings smart and practical shopping experiences, especially for elderly people living far from city centers.
In November, the application will be piloted with households consisting mainly of elderly residents in Ogoecho, Sakade City. In the future, the project will continue to develop additional features to enable wider adoption and help improve the quality of life for all people in Japan. "I believe that collaborating with other businesses in this initiative is very meaningful in addressing social issues in Japan." – shared Mayor Tetsuji Arifuku of Sakae City during the signing ceremony.
