This morning (June 29, 2016), Smart Hack 2016 – the mobile application programming contest for students – was officially launched at Nguyễn Văn Đạo Hall – Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The contest is organized by GMO-Z.com RUNSYSTEM in cooperation with the University of Engineering and Technology – Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The Opening Ceremony of Smart Hack 2016 with many exciting activities attracted more than 300 students in Hanoi to participate enthusiastically.

Smart Hack 2016 is a contest to discover and support Vietnamese students who love technology and have highly practical mobile application ideas on Android, iOS, or Windows Phone platforms.

Currently, IT is one of Vietnam’s key economic sectors and a destination for many software development companies around the world. Smart Hack 2016 is the playground for young people who want to enter the promising mobile application market. In addition, the contest helps students test their programming skills, creativity, and teamwork spirit, thereby nurturing talented engineers with breakthrough ideas that contribute to the development of Vietnam’s IT industry.

It is hoped that Smart Hack 2016 will become an ambassador delivering the message: “Young Vietnamese are a potential force to conquer the digital technology industry.”

Mr. Nguyễn Tấn Minh – Deputy Director of GMO-Z.com RUNSYSTEM, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee, expressed his hope that this year’s contest will generate many practical applications.

Sharing the reason behind the birth of Smart Hack 2016, Mr. Ngô Văn Tẩu, Director of GMO-Z.com RUNSYSTEM, said: “Today, with the continuous development of the digital industry and the profit margins it brings, the mobile application market has become a ‘promised land’ for young people in general and IT students in particular. In 2016, more than 60% of Vietnamese are using smartphones, the number of mobile app downloads is expected to reach 300 billion, and the time spent on apps is 2.4 times higher than on the web[i]. By 2017, profits from mobile apps are forecast to reach 77 billion USD [ii]. These ‘telling numbers’ urged us to do something to encourage Vietnamese youth to take part more actively in this multi-billion-dollar market. And that was the reason Smart Hack 2016 was created.”

Affirming the benefits that Smart Hack 2016 brings to students, Dr. Dương Lê Minh – Deputy Head of the Faculty, University of Engineering and Technology – VNU, Head of the Organizing Committee – shared: “This is a very practical competition for IT students, especially those passionate about mobile application programming. It is a playground where future engineers can freely turn their ideas into reality. Through the contest, with feedback from technical experts, participants will gain valuable real-world experience. The competition will create a solid foundation, a great stepping stone for their future careers.”

Smart Hack 2016 was officially launched to create a healthy, useful, and inspiring playground for IT students nationwide.
